Best Burgers In London: Our Ultimate Taste Test

We followed a very balanced diet while going on a tour of the best burgers in London. We evaluated each spot based on three criteria: overall flavor balance, how iconic and recognizable the burger is, and value for money. Here’s the list of the 4 places we visited and our impressions!

Dumbo

⚲ 119 Bethnal Grn Rd, London E2 7DG, UK

Dumbo was founded in Paris and later made its way to London, opening a location in Shoreditch. Here, simplicity and quality take center stage. The menu is very small because they focus on just a few items, aiming to make them as well as possible using top-quality ingredients. The offer includes a cheeseburger, earth burger, nuggets, and fries.

At every place we visited, we tried the cheeseburger so we could make a fair comparison, and of course we always got the fries too. Spoiler: Dumbo’s fries were among the best we tried-if not the best overall.

The burger features dry-aged beef, super smashed until it’s almost crispy. Along with the meat, you get American cheese, onion, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. You can really taste the quality of this burger: the ingredients are carefully selected, well balanced, and each one stands out. Even the sauce served with the fries completely won us over. An excellent burger overall!

Bleecker

⚲ 16 Bloomberg Arcade, London EC4N 8AR, UK

The name comes from a street in New York City where Zan Kaufman, the founder of Bleecker, lived. The idea is to make American-style burgers using the best British ingredients.
It all started with a food truck, and today there are several locations across London-Bleecker has grown into a full-fledged chain.

We visited the Bleecker London Bridge location. Here too, the menu is limited: there are six burger options to choose from. We went for the classic cheeseburger: beef, cheese, onion, and house sauce; along with the inevitable salted fries. The beef in the burger is aged for at least 40 days and comes from UK native breed cattle.
This burger truly impressed us in so many ways. From the very first bite, all the ingredients melt together perfectly, creating a rich, comforting flavor-a real treat! The burger also holds together well in hand, making it easy to eat without falling apart, and the beef is flavorful and high quality. The fries, served with the skin on, were tasty, though not quite on the same level as Dumbo’s.
A simple yet delicious burger that envelops you in flavor- the ultimate comfort burger.

Dove

⚲ 31 Kensington Park Rd, London W11 2EU, UK

We’re in Notting Hill! Here, Dove offers an interesting and inviting culinary selection but not everyone knows that they sell alsoonly 10 incredible burgers a day, which usually sell out almost immediately after opening. If you want to try one, we highly recommend booking in advance, arriving right at opening, and letting them know you want their burger.

Why only 10 burgers a day? Not to be snobbish, simply because the beef used is a carefully selected dry-aged cut that’s not easy to find. The Dove burger is made of a double-ground Yorkshire beef patty weighing 220 g, composed mainly of prime rib aged for 50 days, seasoned brisket, shoulder, and frozen kidney fat, served with caramelised onions, gorgonzola dolce blue cheese and a potato bun. We also shared (of course) the duck fat fries.
What can we say, this burger plays in a completely different league compared to the others, obviously because of the ingredients used. The meat was incredible, very tasty, melted in the mouth, juicy and full of flavor. The caramelised onions were perfect and added a sweet note, and the gorgonzola gave strength and character to the overall taste. The bun was soft and perfect with everything else. A huge treat, super comforting.
As for the fries, fried in duck fat, we expected them to feel greasy or heavy, but instead they seemed light, flavorful, unique, and crispy. We ate the burger first-which is rich and fatty in the mouth-and then the fries. Maybe if we had done it the other way around we would have perceived the fries as greasier? We don’t know, we’re just telling you this for honesty.
The fact is, this burger easily wins as the best of all.

Four Legs

⚲ 52 St Thomas's Rd, Finsbury Park, London N4 2QW, UK

Four Legs is the culinary project behind one of London’s most celebrated burgers, originally launched as a pop-up and now served atThe Plimsoll pub in Finsbury Park.
The pub is chaotic and packed with locals, no tourists! The evening we went it was very noisy. They usually don’t do takeout, but they let us take the burger to go (fries aren’t available for takeaway).
The Dexter Cheeseburger: smashed beef patty, cheese, and special sauce. The sauce had a great texture with finely chopped crispy bits of onion -or maybe bacon- we couldn’t tell exactly. The bun was very good.
Overall, a good and interesting burger. If you can, eat it inside, as it loses a bit wrapped in foil for takeaway. Still, if you want a classic English pub with a good burger, this is the place to go.
