Join us for the final day of our food road trip across Puglia, as we travel through Manduria and Salento to meet local producers, farming families and the people protecting one of the region’s ancient tomato varieties.
We begin with a breakfast at Valentino Bar before visiting Spina Sapori di Puglia, a family-run producer in Oria. Here, Giampiero tells us the story of the Pomodorino di Manduria, an ancient tomato variety that had almost disappeared before its seeds were recovered with the support of Slow Food. We discover how every part of this tomato is transformed into something new.
We then travel to Manduria to meet the Malorgio family, a father and son who returned to growing this variety and are helping keep the local farming tradition alive.
From there, we continue towards Torre Uluzzo to explore a wilder, untouched side of the Salento coast, before ending our journey in Tricase with a final seafood dinner.
This is the third and final episode of our food road trip across Puglia, discovering the region through its products, landscapes and the people working to preserve them.
