Jin Yong

Jin Yong is right on the main street of Milan’s Chinatown. Here I tried the famous tangyuan, glutinous rice balls filled with sesame, served in a warm fermented rice broth. I found them delicious and noticeably softer than usual, as they can often be quite chewy.

Hua Cheng

Hua Cheng feels like an old Italian trattoria, now run by a Chinese family. The food is very delicate, the flavors aren’t too strong, but overall it feels authentic. The dumplings and noodles are excellent, all strictly handmade.

Ristorante Cinese Sole

Ristorante Cinese Sole is located just outside the main Chinatown street on Paolo Sarpi. The place is a bit simple and cramped, but don’t let that scare you. The dumplings here are amazing, handmade and served either boiled or grilled. Try them all. Next time I come back, I’ll explore the rest of the menu, which also looks very promising.

Xin Fu Ji

Xin Fu Ji is a Chinese restaurant in Milan’s Chinatown, with many dishes originating from the Sichuan region. We visited during the Lunar New Year celebrations and tried the whole steamed sea bass and the spicy chicken. Both approved.

Kapsa Souvlaki

Contemporary souvlaki with international influences. Their version with pico de gallo is delicious, and the vegan one with a mushroom and avocado skewer is amazing too. Recommended if you want to try a slightly different take from the traditional one

Ouzeri Karayiannis

Inside Athens’ Central Municipal Market, besides the fresh meat and fish stalls, you can also find lots of small restaurants and places to grab a bite. This one is tiny, with two counters outside where you can sit. You can enjoy a nice cold beer and a seafood plate: shrimp, pickled anchovies, mussels, and the typical rice roll wrapped in a vine leaf. Perfect for an aperitivo or a quick snack.

Taverna Aris

Inside Athens’ Central Market, you’ll find a street that almost feels like it belongs to this taverna, since several spots share the same name. It’s a classic seafood taverna, especially known for grilled dishes. The grilled octopus was super tender with a nice crispy bite, and the fried squid had a very light, thin coating. Approved!

Krinos (since 1923)

Here you can find the classic Greek doughnuts: loukoumades. The dough is very light and airy, and stays really moist inside. We had them with ice cream and syrup. Personally, since I don’t love overly sweet things, this dish can be a bit too much, but if you balance the toppings it’s definitely worth trying.
